The Browns can expect some help to their struggling defense in the near future. Starters Mack Wilson (knee), Greedy Williams (shoulder) and Kevin Johnson (lacerated liver) all returned to practice this week, though each is practicing in a limited capacity. It remains unclear whether they play this Sunday.
Whenever they return, it will be a big boost to a defense that is allowing 34 points per game (4th-most in the NFL). Wilson and Johnson figure to slide back into their starting spots as soon as they’re cleared, given their replacements have struggled.
Greedy Williams, however, will have some competition for the CB2 spot. Terrance “Money” Mitchell has played very well in Greedy’s absence, just as he has throughout his tenure as a Brown. PFF gave Mitchell a grade of 76.2 last week against the Bengals, good for 11th-best in the league last week. He was targeted 10 times and only allowed 2 receptions. Regardless of who starts, they will both play a fair amount of snaps.
Cleveland hosts Washington this Sunday at 1:00 PM on FOX.
